The colourful taste of Mexico is an illustrated recipe book of traditional mexican food. The book contains fourteen of the most popular traditional recipes in Mexico which are represented by illustrations inspired by Mexican crafts and paintings. In addition, the cookbook also offers a glimpse into the history of each dish through brief captions for those interested in learning more about Mexican culture and its traditions. The objective of this cookbook is to show and publicize Mexico from a different point of view than the usual one. This new point of view takes traditional food as its protagonist and makes it a direct witness of the country's history and its cultural development through the centuries.

The illustrations are made using the gouache technique and their task is to convey all those sensations that make Mexican cuisine unique and special. Using the colors and motifs of Mexican handicrafts, the illustrations are a visual expression of the complexity of traditional recipes and the richness of their ingredients, as well as the country's pre-Hispanic and colonial legacy.

The creative process began by exploring diverse layout options through quick digital sketches and thumbnail compositions. Once the final frames were established, each illustration was painted by hand using gouache over high-grade watercolor paper.

To capture the rich essence of Mexican cuisine, I experimented with various mixed-media techniques to replicate the contrasting textures of the dishes, artisanal plates, and traditional textile backgrounds. The intricate embroidery textures were achieved by meticulously drawing each thread using an ink pen charged with diluted paint, requiring a high level of patience and precision. For the culinary elements, some sauces were given depth using a sponge or by creating organic spatters—shaking the brush to drop fine droplets onto the paper. Additionally, harsher, more rustic textures for the pottery and backgrounds were crafted using dry-brush techniques and masking tape for defined edges.
